Q: What's your background in art and sculpting?
A: I'm largely self-taught in sculpting, though I've been fortunate to learn some things from my uncle, who is one of Greece's prominent marble sculptors. Art runs in my family - my grandfather was a renowned local potter, though he passed before I was born. My sister is a sweet painter who always assists me when it comes to bringing my sculptures to life.
Q: How did you get into plants and terrariums?
A: My journey with plants started early - I grew up surrounded by them thanks to my mother and grandmother. The turning point was in 2014 when I created a large terrarium for my school's presentation room. I started my plant and grounding art content channel in September 2021, which is when my personal collection really began to grow.
Q: What inspired the Maya Face Temple project?
A: The Maya Face Temple (completed in November 2024) is a Styrofoam carving that represents a fusion of my various influences - from my family's artistic background to my childhood memories and experiences.
Q: Do you practice other forms of art besides sculpting?
A: Yes! I work with various mediums including clay, Styrofoam, and create terrariums. I also have a background in music and have worked on various artistic projects throughout my school years.
Q: What's your connection to Asian culture?
A: Through my father, who is a Religious philosopher and author, I was introduced early to Asian cultures and practices including Buddhism, Taoism, ikigai, the art of making bonsai, kokedama, and wabi kusa.
Q: Where do you get inspiration for your work?
A: Nature is my biggest inspiration, especially forests and moss. My work is also influenced by my family's artistic legacy and my deep connection to various cultural and spiritual practices.
Q: Do you teach or offer workshops?
A: I currently share my knowledge through this site and my Youtube channel.
Q: What's your favorite type of project to work on?
A: Terrariums, paludariums, aquascapes, and face sculptures.
Q: Do you sell your art pieces?
A: It depends.
Q: What advice would you give to beginners interested in sculpting and plant art?
A: If you love what you're doing, keep going and never give up. Embrace the beauty in your mistakes, as they will guide you toward your future self. Experiment freely, stay curious, and remember that every artist has their own unique journey.
Q: How do you balance your artistic practice with other aspects of life?
A: Nature and art have been crucial in maintaining my mental well-being. Creating art, working with plants, and staying grounded in nature have helped me overcome significant challenges and maintain balance in my life.
